Typhoid is killing people in Nkonge, Uganda

Nkonge is a rural village located in Kyampisi sub county, Mukono district, Uganda. The village has a population of up to 1500 people and 120 households.  There is 1 community school.

Most people in this village are subsistence farmers and a few are hawkers along a highway road that passes through the village.

Access to safe and clean water is a big challenge for this community. There is hardly any protected water point.  People walk into swamps to collect dirty water from surface ponds.

Typhoid remains the major illness in homes because of the bad water people use. This illness keeps many children out of school, but also causes a huge financial burden on families.

Collecting water from surface ponds remains very dangerous, with a couple of children drowning in the process.

Following up on the request we received from the community, the village was assessed, trained and prioritized  as a beneficiary of the Community Funded Well Program.

A down payment has been made and an appropriate point selected for drilling.
