Shuuku Primary school is located in Shuuku Village in Sheema district, western Uganda. The school has a population of approx. 400 children coming from 2 villages since it’s the only nearby school. The community around the school has about 150 homes. The school and the community don’t have any source of clean water. They all depend on water collected from surface ponds in swamps and these ponds are even very far from homes.
Late last year we drilled and constructed a community borehole at a school in this region. A child at this school had drowned and died in a pond while attempting to collect water. Because of this intervention, information about our Community Funded Well Program reached many schools in this region. Many schools with water challenges have reached out to us.
Shuuku Community, championed by the school, have collected their down payment and an appropriate drilling point has been identified. Work is set to begin.
