The Amazon region of Brazil is home to more than 500,000 subsistence farmers. Those who have turned their farming skills into profitable enterprises and broken out of poverty have one thing in common: They have installed wells for drinking and irrigation on their property. There are two big obstacles facing those farmers who want to drill on their property: Access and Affordability. The big rig trucks are simply too expensive and often can’t reach extremely remote locations. This leaves these industrious farmers with very few options.
That is why we want to create a locally owned Village Drill Well-drilling Team in the region. This new team will be supported by the local farming cooperative, trained by WHOlives, and mentored by a BYU Engineering for Global Development team who has worked with WHOlives and the farming cooperative for the past 10 years.
Project funds will go to the purchase of a new Village Drill Hybrid, shipping, customs duties and fees, training and all materials needed to start drilling.
Working together we can help bring Water, Health and Opportunity to the beautiful people of Amazonian Brazil.
