Each day the children of Saint James school pick up their jerry cans and walk more than 2 kilometers to fetch water from a swampy stream. They would rather be attending their classes and playing with friends but the constant need of water forces them to make this daily trek. Many children miss days of school because of water borne illnesses. WHOlives staff visited this school in February and talked to the parents and leaders about our community funded loan program. Everyone was so excited to learn that they would soon have access to clean water. The children are especially looking forward to having clean water so close by.
