Team Stokes: Please help 2000 in Nkooko, Uganda with their well (including Royce)

Dear Team Stokes with Derek Stokes at State Farm:

Welcome to Nkooko village,  a rural and remote community in Kayunga District , Central  Uganda. There are approximately 180  households and over 2000 people in this village.

Service delivery in this community is still very poor. Access to clean and safe water stands at less than 10% since there’s hardly any safe water source. People depend on streams which they share with their animals.

The water situation is made worse by the drying up of the current springs and streams due to gardening in the swamps. There are always crowds of people waiting in turns at the stream and some use it inappropriately and so cause further contamination. For example, many wash their dirty clothes so close to the unprotected stream!

Pictured: Royce at her house washing dishes and some of the bricks in her compound.  Royce, 52 years old, makes bricks as an income generating activity. Clean water is crucial in brickmaking to ensure structural integrity, prevent premature weakening, and avoid discoloration. Because the water is very far, she can’t make as many bricks as she could every day.

Stanley is a resident in Nkooko village. He has a young family and his wife recently gave birth to their first child. Stanley says he wishes to spend more time in his garden for more productivity, unfortunately he now spends more time looking for water for his family. Stanley carrying water from the current water source to his home. Its a long distance and he doesn’t always have enough time to work in his garden.

We hope Team Stokes will support this community of 2000 with a generous donation.
