Ndese is a rural village located in Kasawo subcounty, Mukono district, withy 90 households and a population of 800 people.
To access clean water, people of this village walk at least 4km to Bamusuta B Village where a community funded well was constructed last year. Because of this hardship, people prefer to walk 2km and collect water from nearby surface ponds. Unfortunately this water is unprotected and highly contaminated. Typhoid and diarrhea are rampant in children.
Evelyn is 12 years-old. Despite the water being dirty and unhealthy, her biggest worry is the dangerous path to the pond. She says that during dry seasons it’s very common to find snakes at the pond. Snakes are very scary!
