Laundry water for drinking in Mikanjuni, Kenya. Yuck!

Mikanjuni Village is in Mombasa’s neighboring county, Kwale County, with a population of about 2,000. Most people in Mikanjuni are farmers, engaged in both animal and crop farming. Water is the main challenge in the area, and most people fetch water from the seasonal stream and a few hand-dug wells available in the area that eventually dry up in the dry season.

As a result of contaminated water, diseases are common in the area, mostly waterborne diseases like typhoid, cholera, and a few others, since people and livestock share the same water point. A well drilled will be a blessing to this community.

Water that tastes like laundry soap? No thanks!
