Kyajinja Village is a rural community located in Nagojje sub-county Mukono ditrict. It’s very remote and hard to reach with poor services. Access to safe water is a huge challenge for the community. They depend on swampy ponds that are a long distance (averagely 3KM) away. They come home with dirty water that will make them sick. Poverty levels in this community are very high, and all households agree that their biggest expenditure is medical bills to treat water-related illnesses. A community funded well was constructed in a neighbor village several months ago. The people of Kyajinja also invited us to train them about this opportunity. They remained interested and focused and the first down payment was raised. An appropriate site in the village is selected for drilling, and work is set to start.
Reagan and Savio are both around 12 years old and they are good friends. Though their homes are not very close, they often meet at this water source. They are both worried of drinking from this filthy pond but it’s all they have.
