Mwembeni Village is on the coast of Kenya in Kwale County. With a population of about 1,250 people, most of the villagers are farmers and they do agriculture for cash crops and animal farming as well.
Water is the main challenge in the area. The few hand-dug wells dry up during the dry season. Other than the hand-dug wells, the majority get their water from a dam. They share the same water source with livestock. Water-related illness is very common. Boreholes will be a safer source of water and the community will save money on medical bills and other costs associated with drinking and using dirty, contaminated water.
