The Field of Dream School in Kawere, Kenya is a primary school with about 150 1st – 4th grade children. The school children and members of the surrounding community must get up early in the morning to draw water from 2 nearby hand dug wells. The problem is that these shallow wells cannot produce enough water for all of the needs for the school and the community. The wells always run out of water before everyone in line can their water for the day. This uncertain water supply leads to competition and jealousy as people must wake up earlier and earlier to try and get to the well before all the water is gone.
WHOlives is partnering with the school to dig a deep water well inside the school compound. This well will provide plentiful clean water for the school as well as 300 people from the surrounding community. Our February Impact Mission will also be visiting this school where we will help to build a chicken coop. This newly formed business will help the children learn valuable skills in animal husbandry and will provide income which will help with school fees, uniforms and books and supplies. This will be another great example of WHOlives providing Water, Health and Opportunity to those in need.
School officials met with a Village Drill crew and agreed to participate in our Community Funded Well Program. By working together; WHOlives donors, a Village Drill Crew and this local community will soon have access to plentiful clean water as well as a new business which will help the school to thrive.
