Civil war means Lwala residents live in camps

FULLY FUNDED! LOOK AT THOSE HAPPY FACES!

Lwala is a rural and remote village in the Ayam District, Northern Uganda. The village has a population of approx. 2500 people in 300 households. They live in a camp-like settlement due the effects of a civil war that devastated the region in the past.

As the region is recovering from the war, access to basic services is still a big challenge in most of the communities. People have no access to safe and clean water. The water situation makes the livelihoods worse with continued disease and suffering. Unemployment is rampant since many villagers have no employable skills, but with access to water they could engage in economic projects like poultry, and vegetable growing.

The level of education in the community is very low. Many children don’t go to school because they spend hours looking for water. They are always tired and unmotivated.

With one school in the village, children are always moving into the swamps to collect water that is needed at the school and in their homes
