Kiseveni is a rural community in Nazigo subcounty, Kayunga District. There are approx. 150 homes and a population of close to 2000 people in this village.
Like many other Ugandan villages, Kiseveni Village faces enormous challenges with multiple issues that adversely affect public health.
One major challenge is the ability to access a clean water supply. There is no any source of clean water in this village. The activity of carrying water from the current sources back to their homes is very tedious for the children. Most chidren gradually develop chest and back pains.
Most of the population rely on surface water instead of groundwater for everything they do, like drinking, cooking, washing, and living. They have no way to access groundwater. This isn’t very safe because surface water is much easier to pollute than groundwater. Also, when surface water is used up, there’s no real way to restore it. These freshwater sources dry up often and as they start to recede, the risk of pollution becomes even higher.
Children in Kiseveni village spend much time everyday collecting water for their families. This deprives them time to read their books or engage in productive play
The community has shown interest to participate in the Community Funded Well program. They have raised their down payment and work is set to begin.
