The proposed water kiosk project is operated by Walter, a dedicated water vendor who has been serving his community by providing clean and affordable water. For several years, Walter has managed a small water kiosk business that sources its water from a nearby shallow hand dug well. The kiosk plays a vital role in supporting local households who rely on it for their daily water needs, including drinking, cooking, and sanitation.
However, the current water source is unreliable, especially during the dry season. The shallow hand-dug well often fails to yield enough water to meet community demand, causing the kiosk to run dry for several weeks or even months each year. Walter looses business and residents are forced to walk about 2km distances in search of alternative water sources, which are expensive or unsafe.
To ensure consistent water supply, Walter and his business seeks to upgrade the existing system by drilling a deeper borehole and improving water storage and distribution infrastructure to the community. With a sustainable water source, Walter will be able to operate the kiosk throughout the year, providing dependable access to clean water for over 150 households in the surrounding community and small food hotel vendors at the center.
