Busagazi village is a rural and remote community in Kayunga district , Central Uganda. There are approximately 180 households and over 2000 people in this village.
Service delivery in this community is still very poor, There’s hardly any safe water source.
Anne’s Mum at the spring (pictured). She has to leave work at her food stall to collect water. Of course she misses a couple of customers while she is away, but she needs the water. if only the water source were close to her home and business she would have more time to work.
Angelina is washing utensils at home after lunch (pictured). Unfortunately most of the time there is no water in the house and she will leave the untensils unwashed for a day. This is often a cause of conflict between her and her husband.
Felix and Chris like football (pictured). They both dream about playing for the national team! However, every free time they have, they use it to walk around the village looking for water for their families. They have no time to play football and nurture their ambitions.
The water situation is made worse by the drying up of the current springs and streams due to gardening in the swamps. There are always people waiting in turn at the stream and some use it inappropriately and cause further contamination. For example, many wash their dirty clothes so close to the unprotected stream!
