Pongwe Village is on the coast of Kenya in Kwale County. With a population of nearly 1,300 people, most villagers are farmers who engage in agriculture, primarily for cash crops and animal farming.
Water is the main challenge in the area. Hand-dug wells dry up during the dry season. Apart from the hand-dug well, the majority of people obtain their water from a dam, which they share with livestock. Additionally, some bathe and do laundry at the dam, making water-related illnesses common in the area. Boreholes will be a safer water source and the community will save money on medical bills and other costs associated with dirty water.
Children miss school due to water challenges in the area, and they hope to enjoy the blessings of clean water someday.
