Cedar Hollow BBQ for Kigulu, Uganda

The Cedar Hollow neighborhood in Lehi, Utah is coming together for a fundraising BBQ in support of a clean water project in Kigulu, Uganda.

Kigulu village is a rural community in the remote sub county of Kimenyedde – Mukono District which is east of the capital city of Kampala, Uganda.
The community has a population of about 1,000 people (about 150 households). The community currently depends on surface ponds as a source of their water needs. Women and children have to walk at least 3kms (almost 2 miles) away from their homes to swamps and other low lying areas to collect water. This is very tedious and time consuming since they’ll make at least two routes each day.
While the Suubi drilling crew was at work in another village late last year, a team from Kigulu village got interested to know the details of the community funded well program. The training was offered to them and they have since been collecting their down payment.
An appropriate site was located in the center of the village where a new Village drilled well can be constructed and be easily accessed by all the households.

Having clean water close to their homes will make a tremendous difference in the lives of all community members.  Women and girls will spend much less time fetching water, school children will be able to spend more time studying and at play, sickness will be less frequent and adults will have more time to focus on economic activities like farming and raising animals.

If your neighborhood, church or friend group would like to sponsor a fundraising event for a well for an impoverished village in Africa please let us know.  We can help make all the arrangements.
