Kamdini is located in Oyam district, Northern Uganda. It’s approximately 300km north of Kampala towards Gulu. Ananya is a rural community located in Kamdini area. The village has a population of approximately 2,500 people.
Oyam and the neighboring districts were ravaged by decades of civil war. Ever since peace was recorded, the region continues to struggle with poor services. Access to safe and clean water is a big challenge to most of the households since the nearest borehole is about 5km from most homes. People resort to digging shallow holes that then fill up with surface water, and they collect this for home use.
Many families remain poor due to expensive medical bills from water borne illnesses. Women have little time to work because they are walking around looking for water!
