Selling water at Eshinutsa Village will improve everyone’s livelihoods

Eshinutsa Village, located in Khwisero Sub‑County of Kakamega County, is a rural settlement where most residents engage in small-scale farming and informal business. The community includes around 300–400 households, with Eshinutsa Primary School serving as a central hub for education and local activity. Despite being in a region with natural springs and seasonal streams, access to clean, safe, and nearby water remains a major challenge.

Lack of nearby clean water sources forces residents to walk long distances daily to fetch water from unprotected springs or streams, which are often unsafe and contaminated. As such waterborne diseases, such as typhoid and diarrhea, are common due to poor water quality.

Time and energy spent on water collection limits economic productivity and school attendance, particularly among young girls.

Sanitation and hygiene facilities are inadequate, especially during dry seasons when water is scarce after streams and springs go dry.

Drilling a borehole in Eshinutsa would provide a reliable, year-round source of clean water for domestic, small scale agricultural and commercial use.

Japheth, a community coordinator will be leading the project to ensure sustainability, accountability, and local ownership. He shall manage the water point and oversee daily access, maintenance, and fair use.

Wow!  Thank you for funding Eshinutsa!

Accountability and local ownership are keys to a successful well
