WHOlives is partnering with our friends in the Permian Basin on two very important projects.
Project #1: Supporting survivors and ending FGM ($200,000)
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a big problem in an area known as Kuria, Kenya. WHOlives is working with local law enforcement to end this horrible practice. We have made significant investments to upgrade local police stations to provide girls needing protection a safe place to flee. We have also rebuilt a child friendly courthouse so young women can testify against their abusers with privacy and in a safe, welcoming environment.
For the past 2 years we have been providing beds, bedding, medical supplies, food and transportation for rescue centers where these young girls fighting against this cultural practice can be safe from harm. We are committed to ending the practice of FGM in Kenya and our work over the past 2 years has had a significant impact.
Project #2: Community Funded Wells ($800,000)
Systemic poverty is one of the many factors that contribute to FGM. The Community Funded Loan Program is the heart of the WHOlives mission to help young girls live a life of freedom and joy. We empower even the most impoverished community to be able to gain access to their own deep water well. Each community is offered an interest free loan that enables them to gain access to clean water now and pay for their well over the next 10 months. This unique sustainable model is helping to end the cycle of entitlement and dependency.
Please join us in making a huge IMPACT in 2024 and beyond.
