Hope for Girls Center (Migori, Kenya)

A WHOlives Impact Mission group recently visited the Hope for Girls Rescue Center in Migori Kenya.

This Rescue Center is home to 78 girls who are survivors of rape, forced marriage and FGM (female genital mutilation).  The center is totally dependent on the generosity of donors to provide for their daily needs.

Gladwell, the director of the center, is doing a wonderful job coordination food, housing, health care and the other basic necessities of life to these beautiful girls but they still face many challenges.

In 2021 WHOlives brought clean water to this rescue center.  We have also helped them start a 2 acre garden, a chicken business, provided new sewing machines and most recently, we helped with the purchase of new cow.  All of these investments have been designed to help them achieve greater reliance.

We are asking for your continued support to help this rescue center provide for their basic needs and build for the future.

  • The center needs a new kitchen.  They currently cook all of their food over an open fire.  This is very time consuming, expensive and causes a great deal of air pollution.   (The total cost for a new kitchen with appliances will be about $3,500)
  • The center needs bunk beds and mattresses for the girls. ($500)
  • We would like to help the center expand their chicken business and help them buy more land so they can raise cattle.  ($7,000)  This is a major investment in helping the center become self reliant.  They plan to sell the milk and eggs in the community to help fund their operations going forward.
  • We are also working with the rescue center to teach the girls marketable skills so they can provide for themselves once they leave the center.  We are working with local partners to provide mentoring, internships and job skill training right at the center. ($2,000)

Please consider joining us in supporting the Hope for Girls Rescue Center.  These beautiful women are the future leaders of Kenya and we want to do all we can to help them heal from their past traumas and develop the needed skills to live happy, productive lives.
