Gilead School is a community-based school. It was started to help local kids access quality education. They help bridge the gap that is lacking in public schools.
Among major community problems is the lack of access to clean water. The main sources here are the natural streams located far from homesteads and human habitation. Women and children travel longer distances to fetch water. Time and energy are diverted to water collection activity. School kids miss out on classes and the opportunity to be kids and discover themselves. Time is spent on basic human needs instead of economic activities to become self-reliant.
Community members over the long run develop health complications from using contaminated untreated water. This reduces the life span. In addition to the illness, the costs of treating these health complications are high which then eats deep in the already poor households.
The success of this project would be a miracle to the community that will be served at this school point
